The children were all nestled snug in their beds
Who: Roy Harper and loved ones.
What, When, Where: Christmas Eve at Titan's Tower. A sappy, very sappy, dream. Friends and family welcome.
The tree was ridiculous. But then, it was their first Christmas back in Titans' Tower, since they'd reunited – so it was really no use, trying to explain to Kory that she didn't have to go pluck up a Norway Spruce tall enough to rival Rockefeller Center. And then Nightwing did the wiring, and Flash strung up about sixteen billion tiny blinking lights, and of course Donna had, what, eight boxes of ornaments in storage?
Besides, it was worth all the trouble to grapple up to the ceiling, baby daughter clung to his back like a monkey, and let her stick the gold foil star on the very, very top of that tinsel-covered tree.
Now, of course, the order of the evening was to keep the small ones distracted enough that nobody snuck a peek at any presents. For Cerdian this only involved the judicious application of shiny golden baubles. For Lian, well, it was definitely time to break out the hot chocolate and picture books.
"And mamma in her kerchief, and I in my cap/ had just settled down for a long winter's nap." Roy yawned, like a total ham, and pretended to droop sleepily all over the girl in his lap. It made good cover for him to sneak a hand toward Santa's cookies.

She could be wrong though.
Either way, she was somewhere that wasn't her lonely, snow-covered rooftop of New York, spidered out and... honestly, her first thought?
That was one of the biggest trees she's ever seen. Didn't that belong in the Rockefeller Center?
But, okay. Focus. There were... people in the room that she was standing at the entrance at. Around the tree. Having some sort of Christmas card-esque moment and it was honestly one of the sweetest things she had ever seen (and her heart grew three sizes that day). After all, look at how happy Roy was... with who must clearly be his daughter. And here she was... standing at the doorway. In her ridiculous spider-costume with the mask down and certainly wondering if she should turn around and try to find that door she came through. Because she definitely took a wrong turn off that rooftop... (She was probably going to ruin a moment.)

"Jess!!" He rolled halfway back from where he sat, plucked Lian off his lap and set her to guard the cookies (with a kiss on her forehead and a "be right back, sweetheart.") before hopping up on bare feet to go greet the girl who...
... the girl he'd...
... where'd he meet her, again...?
By the time he's reached her it's slipped his mind; Jess is a friend and a little sister in arms, and she's welcome in his home. "Where've you been hiding yourself? You almost missed the caroling."

Honestly? None of that seemed all that important when he approached her. It was just surprising -- refreshing -- seeing how happy he was... it was kind of strange to her, really.
She paused for a second before grinning broadly, wiggling a couple of fingers in a wave. (Okay, she really didn't have the weirdest costume here. That was slightly comforting.) "Sorry I'm late. I guess you have no choice but to listen to my imitation of a cat dying."

Her gaze was moving past all the strangely dressed people (and sadly? She's still seen weirder) and smiled brightly at the offer. "Cocoa's fine. Really, I can get some myself. I know you have some... business to attend to." Her stare moved to where Lian was before nudging him with her elbow reassuringly.

Because of course he'd been bugging her to come in to the Tower now and again, hadn't he? Why wouldn't he? It seemed the logical thing he would've done.

"Ah, sorry about that. I just get so caught up in work and the traffic you wouldn't believe!"
She laughed, shrugging her shoulders. "But I'm here now and I'll make the best of it." Granted, she still had no idea how exactly she got here, but it didn't seem too bad. Even if her luck was that everything went from "too bad" to "horribly wrong". But not on Christmas, right?

But yeah. Definitely not on Christmas. At least not here. At least - not this year.
Because this is Roy's dream, dammit, and his most domestic heart's desire is to just have one quiet, contented, solitary day free of conflict, or struggle, or...
oh, who are we kidding.
The red alert went off at the same time the impact hit Upper Bay. A high wave hit Governors' Island like a steamroller and washed straight up onto the south end of Manhattan.
Roy gave Jess a wry look, "Well, speak of the Devil..." and pulled open the storage closet next to the cleaning supplies. It wasn't his main cache, but it had everything he needed: steel boots, big guns, badass sunglasses.
"...and the Devil, he shall appear."

"You know I'm not complaining."
She paused before hurrying after him, watching him prepare himself while she pulled her mask over her face. Another reason why she wore her costume all the time -- less prep time for her. Even if it was a one-piece pajama thing. She didn't make it.
Jessica turned away for a moment, pointing both index fingers up at the ceiling to let the web shoot out in thin threads before glancing at Roy. "Can we say Christmas team-up?"

"You're an honorary Titan."

"Right on! I won't let you down!"
