[there was nothing she could do. She didn't understand what was going on, she can't fight, she doesn't think she's smart enough to find anything that could help. If Chiyo was here, she'd know what to do. She would know where to look, she would know how to make everyone feel better, she would...

But she'd been one of the first ones snatched.

So, Sakaki is on her own, looking through the library. Most of the shelves she thought to search were already mostly empty, cleared out by far smarter people. It left her to halfheartedly pick through what remained. She didn't even know what to look for...

...Eventually, she wanders over to where the children's books are. More for a sense of comfort than anything. The bright colors, the adorable pictures, it's one of her favorite places in the entire castle. Despondently poking through the pages, collecting an armful to show Nanako when she goes to check on her... she eventually comes to a small featureless book that she'd never noticed before, its empty cover standing out amongst the primary colors and happy shapes of the other books
]

Mm? [there is an uncertain pause as she opens it... and a horrified gasp as she reads] ...Oh my...

[the day is finally here!

The outdoor theater near the castle is decorated for the occasion, balloons and flowers dressing the whole area up as bright and warmly as possible. The stage is open for both signed-up performers and walk-ons, with seating and standing room set up for the audience. There is also a collection of cages and helpers holding leashes nearby, showing off the animals up for adoption, as well as treats and pet supplies for sale.

Strung over the stage is a big banner that reads--

Paradisa Animal Talent Show!
  First Anniversary of the Fairyland Animal Center

And, amidst it all, is one tall concerned-looking girl, hurrying around and making sure everything is in order.

Let Paradisa's excuse for an animal talent show begin!
]

((ooc: time for ridiculousness and CR-gathering! Performers, judges, audience members, hecklers, come one come all! Everyone welcome. Don't hesitate to join in as a performer, pets and 'animal' residents both, absolutely no real skill required! This is Paradisa... we're not expecting this to go normally. lol))
[identity profile] so-catless.livejournal.com
[with the talent show only a few days away, Sakaki is making one last run through town to hang posters.

...then she pauses, while tacking one to the side of a shop, and stares at it thoughtfully
]

I wonder who will win...

[it is Paradisa, after all. She could end up running into animals that she's never even seen before, with incredible tricks that are just unfair to the other competitors. Those would be hard to judge, and what if the other entrants feel left out? At least Gold will be there to help with the pokemon...

...And then, on the other hand, it being Paradisa and all, maybe the animals here are just too busy with all the strange and dangerous things that happen to bother with tricks. She knows how hard it is to find time for hobbies here sometimes, so she can only imagine that the animals are just as busy.

She decides that whoever wins, it would have to be the best of both worlds. Both skilled and world-weary-- an animal that has obviously been through a lot, but makes time for the little things as well. One that will be a good role-model for the younger Paradisan animals...
]

...He deserves a medal.

[drawn right into the journal]

...[and then edited in later:]

[with all the craziness and violence lately, she'd completely let the day slip by. It isn't until she realized that she hadn't crossed the days off in her calendar for a couple weeks, that she remembered-- seeing a certain day in January that she'd circled in bright red. The Anniversary!

So, she immediately sits down and begins to jot down notes, tossing around a few ideas. Finally, she pulls the journal over and writes a note in her usual neat script
]

It is a little late, and there is a lot going on right now, but there will be an event for the anniversary of the Fairyland Animal Center sometime soon. I hope it will do the residents and animals some good. Looking for:

-- Owners who are interested in entering their pet/pokemon in a talent show
-- Animal residents who are interesting in enterting themselves in a talent show
-- Judges for a pet/pokemon/animal-resident talent show
-- Anyone who would like to donate things to put into prize baskets

Thank you,
-Sakaki

[the deluge of adorable cats is like a sign from heaven, and Sakaki has spent all morning preparing! Whether these cats are new residents, current residents on losses, or just some random castle-induced cat plague, it doesn't matter to her! She knows what simply must be done. The Animal Center has been spotlessly cleaned and restocked, a path to the castle door shoveled and salted... she is exhausted, but it will all be so well worth it!

Making sure that the heater in the Yard is at a nice toasty springtime temperature, and that the kitty door is unlocked, she finally flops down at the Center desk and pulls out her journal...
]

[her voice is quiet, but she's not worried. Cats have excellent hearing, you know.]

filtered to all cats! )

The Animal Center is closed to cats-only today.

((ooc: all cats welcome, loss or non-loss! Information on the Animal Center and its awesome specially-built-for-animals Yard is -Here-. Sakaki will be tagging everyone, but please also threadjack catjack around. Show them how to party, felines! Also, if your cat is contagious and you want to help me not get Sakaki infected, feel free to have your cat experience that weird 'aaagh don't let her pet you' vibe that she gives off to cats))

[there is terribly cheerful humming coming from the kitchen, along with the smell of several impeccably decorated batches of cookies being laid out on the counter. And who is merrily frolicking around said kitchen, smiling brightly and dolled up in a sunny yellow apron? Sakaki is!

She twirls back to the journal, the stoicism in her voice replaced with smiles.
]

Welcome back!

While our cookies cool, I'm going to show you how to make a darling set of holiday napkin rings, with things that you can find already just lying around the kitchen! If you have a paper towel tube, some food coloring, and a couple of bottlecaps, then you've got the makings for a perfect gift for friends and family! And it costs you next to nothing.

[then, the ding of an egg timer] --Oh! That's our bake-it-yourself gingerbread ornaments! Let's see how they turned out...

((ooc: sooo-o-o backdated! I apologize, and blame this post solely on Ena. Sakaki has been brain-theatred!))

[her journal rests open, waiting for her. She'd thought about filtering to anyone who had spoken to her during her strange loss and apologizing; she'd considered talking to Mat about winning her in the auction. ...But, she finally decides that she would rather just hope that everyone has forgotten about all of that, and doesn't say anything. That leaves her journal open, continuing to wait for her, however. She's in the lobby, intently watching a couple of turtledoves in the pine boughs]

...I wonder where all the others are. Hens, swans...

[a thoughtful pause I wonder what a partridge is...

((ooc: open for anything. Kisses very welcome, both planned and unplanned))
[identity profile] so-catless.livejournal.com
[running across an ad for a certain bookstore in town reminds her-- she wants stuff. So, on her way down to the shop, she flips her journal open]

For my party,  I would like presents.
I like books, decorations for my room, stuffed animals, and flowers.

[shortly after, she arrives at a certain odd bookstore, and peeks into the window. ...Anybody in there?]

((ooc: Her loss-by-proxy is just about over... I swear))
[identity profile] so-catless.livejournal.com
[her voice is still quiet, but there's such a bold edge of uncaring arrogance to it, that she sounds nearly unrecognizable as herself]

I want a party.

No one cares that I've been here for more than a year, no one cares that I started the Animal Center.

[crosses her arms as she demands at the journal] ...So, I want a party. I want there to be decorations, good food, and music. I want everyone to have fun, and I want to make new friends. Does everyone hear me?

((ooc: thanks for the loss-by-proxy, Lorne. I apologize to everyone in advance for the bitchiness!))
[identity profile] so-catless.livejournal.com
[it was very hard not to worry about Halloween approaching, with the memories of last year looming. But, trying to follow an important piece of advice, Sakaki is working hard to keep her mind off of it. The Animal Center door is propped open to let the nice air in, and she's out front, sweeping fallen leaves from the steps and around the building.

...And those leaves just
might be being swept into a temptingly large pile, heaped up at the corner of the building-- just about close enough that she could keep her eye on it while pretending not to, but far enough that passing people/animals/etc. might not feel too self-conscious about jumping in it. ...That is all coincidence, of course. She's just sweeping and minding her own business. Really.]

[eventually she pauses in her leaf-sweeping. And then, while thinking about the date, she pulls out her journal]

I wonder why it picks these holidays. A Sports Day would be nice.

[a pause] ...Mm. Unless the tug-of-war ropes would attack...

((ooc: open to journal or in person... you know you want to do something to the trap of leaf-jumping cuteness pile of leaves))

[The wedding is over, the vows have been said, and everyone has adjourned to the wonderful reception area for a night of fun, drinks and dancing.

There are tables lined with food of all sorts, and places to sit and enjoy... there's a bar, once more provided by Caritas, and a huge wedding cake. There's also a dancing floor... and a band made with those multi-talented ghosts.]

[ooc: Please wait for the sections to go up. ALL DONE! OPEN TO ALL! As of last time, please go CR MENTAL and threadjack one another like wild people...]

[ALL OF THE FOLLOWING IS FORWARD-DATED TO THURSDAY!

the Four Season's Room has been transformed in the early morning hours. there are decorated chairs on the sand, flower petals scattered about and the sound of distant seagulls cawing overhead. the sun is bright... the sand is warm but not too hot, and the ebb and flow of the ocean is a lulling rhythm in the background. a string quartet of ghosts (what? they are of many talents, friends) are playing a soft melody in the background as people mill about.

in short, it's a perfect day!

come one, come all...! invitations went out earlier in the week imploring ALL CASTLE RESIDENTS to join in celebrating this holy matrimony. everyone could use something nice and relaxing to enjoy, right...? even if you don't know the bride and groom, you're more than welcome here.

[she really thought she knew what she was going to say, and the words were just going to come right out. Instead, she ends up doodling leaf shapes in her journal for a while, until she's used each of her crayon colors]

Mat )

[she almost shuts her journal, but one more filter comes to mind]

Lorne )

...At least it's pretty, this time.
[identity profile] so-catless.livejournal.com
[on her way to class, Sakaki pauses at a window overlooking the schoolyard and lingers. Daydreaming off somewhere for a while, she might even miss the beginning of the next class. When she finally blinks out of it, she opens her journal and gives it a little sigh]

I don't remember school being this hard the first time around. ...It's the good kind of hard, though. Even with the strange things going on.
It's a nice change.

[Sakaki is in the gym today, taking advantage of the emptiness while it lasts. She's been running through rounds of basic martial arts moves for a while now so, after a little stretching, she sits down to take a break]

Mm. That glass building. It was a little like training for the Castle.

[a sip from her bottle of water]

Like a Sports Fest. [she frowns, then] ...I wonder if it will come back next year. ...Did someone win?

((ooc: also open to the gym, of course))

[sitting on the Castle steps, tying her running shoes, journal open beside her]

Buffy and Faith )

Chiyo )

[then she heads into the courtyard to do some stretches and warm-ups, despite the summer sun. Missing home, she feels the need to do something familiar, something to clear her head. So... jogging it is. She heads out to do a couple laps around the Castle grounds, and try not to overheat in the meantime]
[identity profile] so-catless.livejournal.com
[she is where she has been for most of the day, sitting on the front steps of the Castle, flipping solemnly through her journal]

[very quiet, and a little frustrated]

Is it trying to turn us against one another?

...Or, is it trying to see if we'll work together; accomplish something?

[a pause, half-doodles a little building with a happy sun over it in the margin]

Maybe it just wants to watch.

About the Archive

"Paradisa Lost" is the archive of what the journals contained between December 1st, 2006 and January 10th, 2012. On that final day, Paradisa issued new journals, so that the residents could fill them up again. While there are still residents around who have old journals, we have chosen to preserve the old journals here for muns' reference and history.

"Lost" in the title refers to both the old journals that the residents once kept, and also to our move to Dreamwidth from the original Livejournal community, where Paradisa started. It is a fresh start for muns, as well as for the characters.
